We want to invite everyone to our “Picnic with the Minis…..a Thank You From the Bottom of Our Hearts and Hooves.” It will be at Kenny’s Corral on Sat. July 12 from 10am-1pm. Kenny’s is located at CR 7500 and Slide Rd. You just go out south on Slide Rd. and about a ¼ of a mile past FM 1585 and Kenny’s is on your right. Hopefully, we will have some balloons on Kenny’s sign to catch attention. There will be hot dogs and burritos, drinks and chips. We ask that everyone bring a canned good in exchange for the lunch. The canned goods will be donated to the South Plains Food Bank. We will have hay rides, feeding Kenny’s animals and pictures with the minis. We encourage everyone to bring their chairs or a blanket. This is our way of saying THANK YOU to the Lubbock community for their support after the dog attack. We hope y’all will come see us. Melanie (Kauli, Kim, Sparkles, Honor and PepperJack)
I wanted to let everyone know what we have been up to the past several weeks. We have been very busy, between visits and getting ready for our THANK YOU party on July 12.
We participated in a walk at The Plaza. Sparkles and Honor (and Kim and I) walked one mile with the residents and the care takers. (see pictures) It was a great time and of course Honor and Sparkles were a big hit with the residents. We visited with Mr. Todd, he is doing so much better. He looked wonderful.
We have visited Carillon, Quail Ridge, Southern Specialty and Bender Terrace. Honor visited the 1st graders at Rush Elementary and Sparkles and Honor spent the morning with Shallowater Elementary. We have also hosted a couple of groups at the ranch. Buckner’s Children’s home came out and visited with Honor, Sparkles and PepperJack. They even gave PepperJack a bath. We can’t decide if he likes baths or not. Another group came out and brushed and spoiled the horses.
We will be visiting Texas Boys Ranch this Sat. The Downtown Kiwanis are having a work day at the ranch and we will be taking Honor and Sparkles to visit with the boys at the same time. We also will be at a day care center in Idalou on Tues. and the Lubbock State School that evening. On Wed. (the 25th) we will be at Allegiance in Plainview and Bender Terrace that afternoon. Then on Friday we will be at Quail Ridge.
As you can see we are staying very busy. Our goal is to visit every nursing home in Lubbock. If anyone has a visit request (special needs people, etc.) please e-mail us at hh_lubbock_vetfund@minisandfriends.org and we will do our best to make it happen.
Thanks for all of the support.

Hello everyone. I apologize for not posting anything in several weeks. I will try and get back into regular postings when I get back from vacation.
Please mark July 12 on you calendar. We will have our THANK YOU to the community party on day at Kenny’s Corral. More details to come next week.
We continue to be very grateful to everyone who has prayed for us and sent donations and support.
Thank you.

WOW!!!!!!! What a great turn out we had for the fundraiser Saturday at Market Street. After all of our expenses we raised about $1200. Just as exciting as the money raised was seeing the smiles on all the faces when they met Sparkles and Honor.
Thank you to everyone who came out to see our babies and have their pictures made with them. Also, thanks to those who have supported our Jollyeo fund.
We would really like to express our gratitude to Sheila Johnson and Deborah Dodson for organizing this fund raiser. They did 100% of the work….they are our little angels.
We have more exciting news coming in the very near future, so stay tuned.
Thanks.
Melanie (Kauli, Kim, Sparkles, Honor and PepperJack)
I wanted to remind everyone about a fundraiser this weekend (Sat. May 17). Two wonderful women, Sheila Johnson and Deborah Dodson have arranged for Hearts and Hooves to be at the 98th St. Market Street.
The table will be set up from 9am-2pm. Honor and Sparkles will be there from 10am-2pm. We will offer photos with a mini for a $5 donation. We will also have our t-shirts, the raffle tickets for 2 tickets anywhere SWA flies and our Jollyeo bracelets.
We hope everyone will come out and see the babies.
Thanks.

We are very happy to report that fence is half finished. Sparkles and Honor are now running free in their paddock.
They were funny Saturday when I took them out of Kauli’s backyard to feed them. They have been used to going in the backyard and grazing on the grass while I clean out their stall. Then, when I get finished cleaning I open the gate from the backyard to the paddock and they come trotting out and go straight to their stall (they knew there was food in there). Well, Saturday the panels had been put up. I went to get them out of the backyard and they didn’t go straight to the stall, they wandered around the paddock. I guess they could see the panels were up, but I couldn’t believe they knew they would not have to be locked up in the stall. It was very cute.
I will post pictures of the fence tomorrow. We welcome everyone to drive by and check out the fence and the horses enjoying a little bit of freedom.
Thanks again for all of the support from everyone!!!

I wanted to let everyone know about a couple of things we have coming up in the near future.
On May 12 the Hospitality Department at Texas Tech is having a golf tournament. This year the proceeds will benefit Hearts and Hooves of Lubbock. There will be great goodie bags and prizes. The entry fee is $40 a person or to sponsor a hole is $100. If you are interested in playing or sponsoring a hole you can contact David Deason at david.deason@ttu.edu or call him at 742-1966.
We will be at Market Street on 98th and Quaker on May 17 from 9am – 1. Sheila Johnson and Deborah Dodson (thank you to both of you) arranged for us to do pictures with a mini, sell t-shirts, raffle tickets for SWA tickets and to tell everyone about the Jolleyo fund and the bracelets. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to see the babies up close and personal.
We hope that everyone will come out and see the horses and meet our wonderful volunteers.
Thanks,
Melanie (Kauli and Kim)
We will begin painting the fence this weekend. If anyone would like to help paint please call me at 543-4172 or e-mail me at hh_lubbock_vetfund@minisandfriends.org.
As soon as we get the fence painted they will install the wire panels. THEN the babies will be free to roam the paddock area.
Please give me a call if you are interested in painting.
Thanks, Melanie
We would like to announce the Jollyeo fund. We are creating a fund to assist people whose animals get attacked by a dog.
We know that sometimes animals are put down after they are attacked by a dog not because they cannot survive, but because the owner cannot afford the vet bills. We would like to put a stop to this happening.
We wanted to honor the memory of Jolly and Oreo and at the same time help other animals and their owners. The details of how the fund will work are still being worked out, but we are going to proceed with raising awareness and funds.
We will be selling black and white awareness bracelets, Hearts and Hooves on side and Oreo and Jolly are on the other side. I will post a picture of the wristband tomorrow.
We have adult and youth bracelets. We are selling them for $5 each.
If anyone would like to help with this cause, please e-mail and we will give details. Also, if anyone owns a business that would like to sell the bands please let us know.
We are very excited about the program and we hope it becomes a HUGE success.
Thank you for your support.
Melanie (Kauli and Kim)
It looks like the new fence will be ready to be painted next week. If anyone would like to help paint we will be painting in the evenings next week. We are not sure exactly what day we will begin, but we would like to round up volunteers now. We want to be ready and waiting when the fence is ready.
Just e-mail or call 543-4172 if you would like to help.
Thanks.
